Dogs working with autistic children, dolphins as doulas, horses for children with intellectual disabilities: animal assisted therapy is growing in popularity but does the research back it up?

And the flip side of animal assisted therapy, more and more pets are prescribed anti-psychotic and anti-anxiety drugs.

It could be thought of as indulgent to medicate pets but it's becoming more common, after all, animals have emotions too.
