Billy Gordon: Queensland Premier sorry Cook MP's ex-partner feels let down amid abuse allegations
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk is sorry the former partner of Cook MP Billy Gordon feels let down by her response to domestic violence allegations.
Kristy Peckham last night gave a television interview in which she again alleged Mr Gordon used to beat her and still owes her child support, a claim he denies.
She also accused Ms Palaszczuk of not helping her since she first wrote to her office in March.
Ms Palaszczuk, who asked Labor to remove Mr Gordon from the party, said she acted appropriately when she knew of the allegations.
She passed the information on to Labor's state secretary and later referred the matter to police.
Ms Palaszczuk said she was sorry if Ms Peckham felt let down.
"I'm deeply sorry she feels that way but I believe I acted immediately, I referred the matter to the state secretary, he spoke to her at length and those issues were discussed at length," she said.
"I'm sorry she feels that way."
Mr Gordon has vowed to serve a full term as an independent and said he would not comment on Ms Peckham's allegations until the police investigation into them was finalised.
Ms Palaszczuk has also criticised the Opposition for yesterday giving the media copies of Mr Gordon's former partner's child support statements.
At the time, Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg said they suggested Mr Gordon misled Parliament about his payments being up to date.
Ms Palaszczuk said the documents should be confidential, and the Opposition's involvement in the Gordon case was highly questionable.
"It is appalling, it is disgraceful that the LNP are circulating personal details around child support and I understand they also reveal the children's names," she said.
Deputy Opposition Leader John-Paul Langbroek could not explain why the party gave confidential child support documents to journalists yesterday.
"I'm not aware of all the circumstances there, so I'll get back to you with those details," he said.
