Harmony Day 2015 : Australia celebrates cultural diversity
Events celebrating Australia's cultural diversity were held across the country today for the 15th anniversary of Harmony Day.
Coinciding with the United Nation's International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, Harmony Day is held every year on March 21 to promote the inclusion and respect for Australians from different ethnic backgrounds.
Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Social Services, Senator Hon Concetta Fierravanti-Wells, said it has been "15 years of sharing the message that we all belong."
"Our cultural diversity remains one of our greatest strengths. It's at the heart of who we are," Ms Fierravanti-Wells said.
"We live in one of the most socially cohesive nations on earth.
"This, however, hasn't come about by chance," she said.
"It has been built through our strong migrant history. Almost half of us were born overseas or have at least one parent who was born overseas."
From food to fashion, people are sharing what they love most about Australia's multicultural society on social media.
