Sizzle, sandwich or sausage in bread? Australian language mapped

The way you refer to certain food, shops and those things you drink water from likely depends on where you grew up.

A team of linguists and educators from the University of Melbourne has mapped regional variations of English across Australia.

It's part of the Linguistics Roadshow, an effort to engage high school students in the science of language.

Some of the differences run along state lines, but others are more complicated, including the term used to refer to a barbequed sausage, served in a single slice of bread.
