RET future and renewables cutting power prices

Later this morning, the Climate Change Authority is expected to recommend a 19 per cent cut to Australia's greenhouse gas pollution by 2020.

That's a big increase on the Abbott government's current commitment to cut emissions by 5 per cent.

Two weeks ago, the government announced another review of the Renewable Energy Target. The RET is planned to deliver a large chunk of Australia's 2020 carbon cuts - more than 100 million tonnes.

So what role are renewables playing in Australia's energy mix, especially on the sensitive issue of price?
