The first of January marks the annual release of information from our national and state archives.

This year’s release has given insights into the Sydney Olympics, and a potential sale of the Royal Australian Mint.

But why that date? And why are documents from such a range of years being released?

John Di Gravio is a councillor with The Australian Society of Archivists – Bern Young asked him about how Australia’s archives work, and why they're important.
