Women, evangelicals and Mormons behind Trump slide in red states

The third presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump will get underway in Las Vegas later this morningone of Trump's last opportunities to salvage any chance of winning the White House.

While polls go up and down, experts say the trend is clear: Donald Trump is in a downward spiral.

The well-known statistician Nate Silver and his FiveThirtyEight website give Clinton an 85 per cent chance of winning. The boffins at the New York Times have gone as high as 92 per cent.

This means some of the reddest of 'Red States', which have voted Republican for decades, may be turning 'blue'.

Polls in Arizonaa state that has voted Republican at every election since 1950 bar oneshow Hillary Clinton leading by 5 points. The southern Republican heartland of Georgia is also heading towards the Democrats.
