Cyndi Lauper talks Trump and writing the songs for 'Kinky Boots'

Hit after hit, American pop star Cyndi Lauper dominated the '80s with her tunes and look.

But over the past few years, she's enjoyed a bit of a career changewriting the songs for the acclaimed Broadway musical 'Kinky Boots', which has gone on to win Tony and Grammy awards.

The musical by playwright Harvey Fierstein tells the story of Charlie Price, an aspiring young businessman who is forced to give up his London life to save his late father's shoemaking business in Northern England.

Kinky Boots opens in Melbourne this week and Cyndi Lauper is in Australia for the opening night.

She joined Fran Kelly on RN Breakfast.
