The team behind Falls and Splendour are helping launch another huge festival.
Say hello to the first ever Sydney City Limits, the Aussie spin-off of Texas’ iconic Austin City Limits, which expanded to Auckland in 2015 but is now planting its festival feet firmly in Australia this summer with the help of Falls Festival and Splendour In The Grass promoters, Secret Sounds.
Homegrown headliners Vance Joy, Tash Sultana, and Gang of Youths are among the first 22 acts announced for the SCL line-up, along with international stars like Justice, Beck, Phoenix, and Car Seat Headrest.
They’ll be taking over Sydney’s Centennial Parklands for the all ages event on 24 Feb alongside Alex Lahey, Dune Rats, Allday, Winston Surfshirt, and heaps more as they perform across four stages. Sydney City Limits is being co-promoted by Secret Sounds alongside US ticketing giant Live Nation, who purchased a controlling stake in Splendour and Falls in December, and C3 Presents, the Austin-based company that bought up the Big Day Out back in 2014.
Secret Sounds’ Jessica Ducrou says Sydney City Limits is “very much going to be a celebration of Sydney itself – the food, local artists and the community that makes it such a great place to live and visit.”
The local spin on the festivities includes eats and treats curated by local foodies and chefs (including Mary’s Newtown and The Unicorn in Paddington), an open-air gallery featuring Sydney art, painting, photography, video, and street art; plus a Makers Market of local artisans and a ‘festival within the festival’, Sydney Kiddie Limits: a place for punters to rock out with their rugrats.
