A US court ruling is being seen as a sign that a temporary ban on some Muslim travellers could become permanent.

The US Supreme Court has upheld a ban preventing residents of six mostly-Muslim countries from entering America.

The ban against people from Chad, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen is the third version introduced by President Donald Trump.

Two lower courts are expected to rule on the ban's constitutional validity later this week.

Law Professor David Levine from the University of California says the Supreme Court decision could encourage the lower courts to rule in favour of the ban.
