Tasmanian soldier Cameron Baird remembered at a ceremony at the Australian War Memorial
Corporal Cameron Baird, who was killed in action while serving in Afghanistan in 2013, has been honoured at a ceremony at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.
Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Opposition Leader Bill Shorten laid wreaths during the ceremony which was also attended by the Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove.
Corporal Baird was killed as he and other members of the 2nd Commando Regiment assaulted an insurgent-held compound in Afghanistan's Khod Valley on June 22, 2013.
He was posthumously awarded the military's highest honour for bravery, the Victoria Cross.
The Australian War Memorial was remembering Corporal Baird for the first time at its daily Last Post Ceremony.
Every day, just before 5:00pm the memorial holds a service of one of Australia's 102,000 fallen soldiers.
During the service the story of the soldier's life and service is told, the memorial ode is recited and a bugler plays the Last Post.
Corporal Baird's parents Doug and Kay Baird attended the service.
