Rap and hip hop music has always been a powerful way to tell stories of culture through song – from the empowering lyrics of ‘Express Yourself’ by N.W.A to Public Enemy’s politically-charged ‘Fight The Power’. And our homegrown rap and hip hop scene is no exception.
Which is why, in the spirit of Reconciliation Week, we’ve decided to share some of the most powerful stories we’ve come across at rage, as told by young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander rap, hip hop, R&B and soul artists.
May 2020 marks the 20th anniversary of the Corroboree 2000 Bridge Walk, where over 250,000 people made their way across the Sydney Harbour Bridge in support of reconciliation. Multiple walks continued around the nation in the following months, with hundreds of thousands more people coming together to encourage building a stronger relationship between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples, for the benefit of all Australians.
So join us as we celebrate this milestone by playing hours of non-stop music videos from the likes of Briggs, Dallas Woods, Baker Boy, Nooky, Becca Hatch, Birdz, and more on rage.
