Whip out your cargo shorts and wallet chains because Californian punk pioneers Lagwagon are coming to rage this Saturday.
Originally named Section 8, the SoCal group have been an institution in the skate punk scene for over three decades. Kicking off their career as the first band to ever sign with legendary punk rock label Fat Wreck Chords, Lagwagon already had a devoted underground following before the release of their debut album Duh in 1992. From there, subsequent albums would build their reputation within the burgeoning 1990’s Californian pop-punk scene alongside other Cali peers such as Green Day and The Offspring, long before their 1998 hit ‘May 16’ was featured on the Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 soundtrack in 2000.
Their longstanding career has seen them release nine studio albums, share stages with the likes of NOFX, Pennywise, Rancid and Thrice, and perform at festivals such as Soundwave, Vans Warped Tour, Riot Fest, and Amnesia Rockfest. A pretty epic feat considering they’ve undergone multiple hiatuses over the years, including a nine-year gap between albums from 2005 to 2014. But don’t think the band are slowing down anytime soon. Lagwagon continue to bring their melodic hardcore-infused punk sounds and tongue-in-cheek humour to audiences around the world, including on a recent tour to Australian shores earlier this year, right before we all went into lockdown.
Over the decades, the group have seen multiple line-up changes, with founder and frontman Joey Cape, and guitarist Chris Flippin remaining from the band’s inception. And now, Joey and Flip are coming to rage for the first time ever to line up your Saturday playlist.
