J Mascis will share his record collection with us over four shows

You can tell J Mascis from a mile away. His blazing, ear-shattering guitar work, that unique, sweet-but-gritty vocal tone, and that wondrous head of hair; there’s no mistaking him.

As frontman of Dinosaur Jr., he helped create the blueprint for the sound of 90s indie rock. But he’s been a music devotee for most of his life and has amassed a seriously impressive, and seriously diverse, record collection over that time.

This month, he wants to share that record collection with you, as J joins Double J as Artist In Residence and hosts four big shows throughout April. He’ll spin the tracks he loves and tell you about them in trademark J Mascis fashion.

He tends to be pretty economical with his words, but we’ve got no doubt some great insights will come out across the month.

If not, who cares? The music will rule.

We’ve seen the playlist for his first show, and it features the likes of Discharge, Joni Mitchell, Nirvana, America and, of course, some Neil Young.

It’s going to be an exciting month of music, programmed by one of the truly great artists of our time.

NB: J Mascis won’t be on air Easter Sunday (22 April) but he’ll kick off on Sunday 31 March to make up for it.

Hear J Mascis as Artist In Residence Sunday afternoons from 3pm, repeated 10pm Wednesday nights, or listen online at any time.
