Federal Environment Minister Sussan Ley told AM that up to 30 per cent of the koalas in the NSW mid north coast may have been killed by bushfires in recent weeks.

She said she's been working with koala experts to establish corridors and plan for releasing animals that have been in hospitals, with a $6 million budget.

Koalas are just one of the many species under threat by fires, habitat destruction, feral animals and, more controversially, climate change, which the current Prime Minsiter is still refusing to address.
