Norwood, Payneham and St Peters Council in eastern Adelaide has asked the state government to consider a ban on balloons and plastic confetti to cut down on pollution.

It's part of a larger push to ban single-use plastics that can pollute Adelaide's waterways and take a long time to break down.

Mayor Robert Bria told Nikolai Beilharz and Stacey Lee why he's pushing for the ban.
