New federal scheme to allow domestic violence survivors to access superannuation for crisis response

A federal government scheme will allow domestic violence survivors to strip thousands of dollars from their superannuation to fund their own crisis response. The policy's described as a compassionate measure to 'complement the government's existing initiatives to prevent and respond to family and domestic violence'. But with women retiring with less than half the superannuation of men and in a week when gendered violence and inequality are front and centre, domestic violence groups are aghast at the move.
