There has been plenty of publicity in recent years about the role the cattle industry plays in global greenhouse emissions.

Australia's red meat industry is aiming to become carbon neutral by 2030, and if you believe the headlines, it will be using a lot of seaweed to get the job done.

Director of the Primary Industries Climate Challenges Centre at the University of Melbourne, Professor Richard Eckard, said a lot of research on how to lower emissions within the beef industry had been focussed on intensive agriculture such as feedlots.

But he's excited about a number of emerging technologies and methods, which could be perfect for beef producers in northern Australia.
