The Ediacara Hills in South Australia’s Flinders Ranges are rich with fossils from another world.

The impressions of these soft-bodied creatures (biota) are so numerous they gave their name to a new geological period, The Ediacaran period, which began 635 million years ago.

Working with palaeontologists at the hills, Berlin-based Mexican artist Mariana Castillo Deball was inspired to create a large installation for the Melbourne International Arts Festival that takes viewers back through the wormhole of time — it’s called Re-Playing Life’s Tape.
